Helping the Homeless and "Precariously Housed in Greater Williamsburg

LEAD class presents resource fair to connect those in need

WILLIAMSBURG -- Parents with young children living in a hotel room after eviction, two families sharing a small house, or a woman relaying on friends to let her spend the night on their couch all fit the federal definition of "homeless."  We have people living in these situations in the Greater Williamsburg area, and most have an employed adult in the household but don't make enough money to cover their monthly expenses.
From the people living in hotel rooms to those staying on a friend's couch, there are people who might not be perceived as "homeless" who still need help finding community resources.  The Historic Triangle is home to hundreds of area families who are "precariously houses" and need help accessing necessities such as shelter, food and medical care.  LEAD Historic Triangle's Class of 2013 presents "Hands Together Historic Triangle," a one-day event to gather necessary services in one place and offer an access point for the precariously housed members of the community.  The event takes place on March 4th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Quarterpath recreation Center off Page Street/Route 60.
Lead Historic Triangle's Class  of 2013 is collaborating with local businesses, non-profit groups, faith-based organizations, and government agencies to bring the necessary services under one roof to help families in need.  The LHT Class of 2013 is looking to make a difference with your help with donationsvolunteers an spreading the word to people who need these services
"Hands Together Historic Triangle" will organize providers of community services for an entire day to offer expanded access to people who need them, but would ordinarily have challenges getting to all of the locations where they are offered on their own. By bringing together services under one roof at one time, we hope to help those in need access these crucial services.
Hands Together Historic Triangle also encourages increased community awareness of the difficulties facing the precariously housed or homeless members of our community. This is a one-day event but with your support we can create and sustain a program we can offer each year. A community-wide issue requires a community-wide solution. The class is currently seeking sponsors, volunteers and providers for this event and actively working to engage all of the Greater Williamsburg community in this project. Your participation - whether monetary, product donations, service delivery or providing volunteers - will make a tremendous difference in many lives.
Sponsored by the Greater Williamsburg Chamber & Tourism Alliance, LEAD Historic Triangle's mission is to encourage, develop and support future community leaders. The LHT program provides the foundation necessary to develop effective leaders within the Community. By being exposed to various aspects of and leaders within the Historic Triangle, class members can enhance their leadership skills.
